A decade later, the DeKalb County man hit the jackpot, winning $2.5 million recently in a Las Vegas tournament. It took years and years of hard work, he said of his third-place finish in the 2004 World Series of Poker. Arieh is a professional poker p_layer_. He estimates he spends 20 to 60 hours a week looking at cards. He routinely competes with friends, often with $20,000 on the table. It's like owning a business, he said. When you own your own business, you think about it from the time you wake up till the time you go to sleep, said Arieh, 29. I'm constantly thinking about what I do wrong, what I can do better, and the good things I did. After graduating from Druid Hills High School, Arieh spent one year in college, going to classes during the day and playing poker late into the night. He worked as a courier briefly before becoming a professional card shark. I haven't had a job since '99, he said. I knew inside me that one day, I was going to be able to make it playing poker. He has won smaller prizes in the past, including more than $200,000 and a gold bracelet at the World Series of Poker in 1999. Arieh
