Hey People, Please, take a few minutes (less than 5) and fill out the form below to vote for Austin as the best city for filmmakers. Austin has made this list in the past, increasing it's popularity and attracting more and more talent to Austin. Last year Austin fell from 1st to 10th. What??? That's not right. So, let's fix it! We are the BEST right? Similar emails are going out to filmmakers around the country.  Movie Maker Magazine asks Filmmakers to cast their own votes for the best city to make movies.   Vote here:  http://www.moviemaker.com/moviecities/ .   Importance: High Dear Friends: It's Winter time at MovieMaker Magazine, which means only one thing: Time to count down the best places to be an independent moviemaker! Each year, MovieMaker Magazine's Winter edition (which is released at Sundance) features our annual ranking of the best places to live, work and make movies. And this year is no exception-except we're changing up the theme a little this year. In response to the current economic climate and (let's face it) the fact that moviemaking isn't always cheap, this year's survey will focus on the top cities to survive as a moviemaker. It will take into account all the usual criteria-local film scene, quality of life, benefits of shooting in an area, etc.-but pay even closer attention to the financial implications of living in a particular area. Meaning that cost of living, unemployment rates, average salaries, job growth and financial incentives for making a movie will all play an extremely important role. But in an effort to make the issue a true Locations Edition, in addition to the Top 10 Movie Cities, we'll be discussing what's happening in all 50 U.S. states.   Already, our researchers are hard at work interviewing film commissioners, location professionals and independent moviemakers from coast to coast. As such, we're hoping that your office would be able to provide us with some basic statistics on the 2009 moviemaking scene in and your 2010 forecast. Specifically: Projects that have shot in the area, number of production days, financial benefit to the state from film production, recent news regarding tax incentives, etc. What areas continue to be the state's production hotspots? Which areas are showing a lot of recent growth? Essentially, any information that you think our writers should know about the state of moviemaking-independent in particular-in your state. As this is still part of our information-gathering process, the information does not need to be pretty-additional interviews will be conducted as we continue to narrow down our list. Deadline for information is Friday, December 5th. Info can be sent directly to my attention via email for easy dissemination among our writers. Please let me know if you have any questions! Additionally, we are asking independent moviemakers around the country to cast their own votes for the best cities to make movies.
