Titanic is a BAD movie!! The characters were completely one-dimensional and the screenwriting was obvious as hell. Granted, the cinematography was very good and the acting was better than I thought it would be (especially DiCaprio), but this is a very flawed, very bad movie. Spend you money on Fargo, L.A. Confidential and Austin Powers, not a movie that made money solely, SOLELY on hype.

Did Austin Powers actually make any money. *L* Now there's a crap film if ever I saw it.

I also hated the movie....  and that's just my opinion.  I loved the Abyss, True Lies and Terminator 1 and 2 also.   The reason why this movie made so much money is because ever vid-kid and teeny-bopper saw it and loved it....  these are also the people that just go to blockbuster every weekend and rent a couple videos and not those who religiously buy movies that they love on DVD or Laserdisc like me... the movies that are actually great.... and I'm sure a alot of people on this newsgroup love the movie also and to each his own-  so no flames please...  this movie just makes me sick and every time I hear that Celine Dion song in my car I almost have to pull over and puke.   Academy Awards??  It's a fuckin sympathy vote... who cares?  I'm sure alot of you guys agree that LA Confidential was a better movie then that hyped up trash.  There are 2 types of film in my opinion- Entertainment and Art- and others in between- both can be good and for some Titanic filled the bill...  that's why I like Starship Troopers and Austin Powers and other films like Fargo and Short Cuts.....  well that's just my 2 cents.... Thats the only reason your saying the movie was bad, because of the hype. It has always been a common thing for people to backlash against popular things,even if they dont mean it.If the characters were one dimensional,then why did their story have people going back to the theatre 2,5,or even as many as 10 or more times.And why did the academy give it best picture?The acaemy does'nt give awards _base_d on,as you put it, hype .Face it,people will always knock Titanic for one or more of the following reasons:The movie cost to much,the movie made to much,people talked about DiCaprio to much,the soundtrack sold to many copies,and so on.But no one can truly say te movie was bad,if they try,they are only in denial.
