The Shop Around the Corner Film Talk viewing and discussion group Saturday, December 12, 10:00AM Wheeler Auditorium Enoch Pratt Free Library 400 Cathedral St. Baltimore, MD 21201 Klara Novak (Margaret Sullivan) and Alfred Kralik (James Stewart) work together, but hate each other. What happens is not so much what as how it happens, for this story is as old as the battle of the sexes. The Lubitsch Touch makes all the difference; Shop, together with Ninotchka and To Be or Not to Be, is a true masterpeice from director Ernst Lubitsch. Lubitsch's observations of ordinary people portrayed by extraordinary actors like Frank Morgan (just post -Wizard of Oz), Joseph Schildkraut, and Felix Bressart make Shop a seasonal delight. It has been remade twice as a film - as In the Good Old Summertime (transposed to the U.S. Midwest) and as You've Got Mail (to New York City).
