This is probably the most misinterpreted movie of all times. People are saying they didn't like it because it was just another splatter or things like it started out good, but then it sucked or Aliens was better when it is a really deep, deep movie. This is my (and a few select others) interpretation of the movie, and hopefully this will let you enjoy it as I have. The professor who originally built Event Horizon built it for a purpose, a goal that was known to him from the beginning. His wife committed suicide. What happens to people who commit suicide according to the bible? They end up in Hell. So the Event Horizon was not built to cross oceans of space and time but was, in fact, built to enter another dimension, Hell. In regards to this small but very relevant fact, see the movie again and I can almost guarantee you will find tons of biblical references hidden in the movie. I'm not going to mention these things, but I'd like to start a thread where people who enjoyed it as much as I did can discuss their interpretations openly. -T

Actually, they could have made a lot more of the ending to that film. Cool Black guy escapes scarface, as ship blows up behind him. When resued pan out to reveal whole of ship intact.

I don't know of anyone who saw the film who didn't pick up on the points you describe (they are more than a little obvious!), but it doesn't really add anything to a decidedly forgettable experience. 'Event Horizon' is the perfect illustration of the principle that *trying* to be deep and profound does not automatically confer depth and profundity. And stuffing something full of Biblical references (not to mention similarly blatant nods to 'The Haunting', 'The Shining', 'Hellraiser' and the entire 'Alien' cycle) when it has nothing original to say in its own right just makes it look even shallower. <snip IMHO Event Horizon was the best SF-Horror combo since the original Alien. Or at least Carpenter's Thing remake. To be honest I'm glad it stiffed at the box office. At least we were spared another dismal franchise. To criticise Event Horizon for being derivative is pointless, virtually every genre film made since the 70's has been equally derivative, if not worse. The only conceivable reason I can see for EH being so maligned is its lack of a cool monster (preferably designed by Giger).

Man, you hit the nail on the head! I couldn't agree more . . . I just DO NOT understand why this movie is so HATED. I think it was one of the scariest things I've seen in quite some time, and I don't care what people say
