Tippi Hedrin is the founder and fund raiser for Shambala, a refuge for exotic animals. But I don't think she's better known for that. In fact, if you mention Tippi Hedren to folks, most of them will think of just one movie:   The Birds

Are you thinking of Julie London perhaps? (Cry me a River) She certainly fits the bill.  Beautiful woman, tiny by modern standards, only 5' 4 , good singer of somewhat limited range, but very good within that range.  Same could be said of her acting, but she really was a mediocre actress, and that's being kind.  Made the cover of Life magazine with the caption, Films Find A Singer  Died last year, I believe.
She was a dish all right and she had a voice that suited her looks. -She was married to Jack Webb for a while - I knew her mainly as a singer but on checking her out on imdb I was surprised at how long a career she had in movies and TV. A couple of her performances weren't bad - I remember her in The Great Man and The Third Voice - (Now that's a movie I'd like to see again but it seems to have become one of those *lost* movies)-I also remember her wandering through The Girl Can't Help It to good effect singing Cry Me a River . Dave in Toronto

There's a singer who has a very good voice - whose husband got her some acting roles.    I don't know whether she's better known for being a great singer or for being an awful actor.    For some reason, her name is escaping me right now. Pia Zadora?  Can't recall hearing her, so don't know how really good she was as a singer. Bloody awful, Believe me. Dave in Toronto When she won Golden Globe for Best New Star of the Year in 82 for Butterfly it was considered a joke and kind of a bought award by her husband.  The GG have sure come a long way from those days. - Hide quoted text -- Show quoted text -

Dave in Toronto I thought she was married to her co-star on Emergency , Bobby Troup. He's also the guy who wrote Route 66 .  He died in '99, she in 2000. Of course I've been wrong before. brigid
